Visit to a sheep farm

Last night we were treated to a trip to our local sheep farm in Wilstead!

David told us all about his family history on the farm before telling us and showing us the sheep and talking through how you would judge them in a stock judging competition.

Afterwards members were treated to a how not to stock judge and how to stock judge!

What is Stock Judging
Stock judging is a competition whereby you judge 4 animals (either beef, dairy, sheep or pigs) against each other based on how much meat/milk they would produce!

Each pen of 4 animals is labelled A B X Y and members get 10 minutes to look at the animals!

Afterwards members stand in front a judge and deliver their reasons.

They are mark on style, presentation and accuracy of observations!
