Sunday 29th March - Pre Rally

Yesterday was pre rally day; one of the three days that make up the biggest event in the beds YFC calendar - The Rally!! 

It took place at Redborne school and was a mixture of sports, craft, practical skills and construction classes!! 

The day begin with the drawing classes members were split into junior, intermediate and senior and had to design a chocolate bar wrapper, a soft drinks label and a beer bottle label respectively. 

This was followed by the origami class and clay modelling class. 

By lunchtime members had assembly texts, decorated cup cakes and created an animal outfit out of recycled materials. 



After lunch it was time for the face painting class (which silsoe won 😜) and the sports classes , having to putt a golf ball, throw a rugby ball and hit a shuttlecock through different sized holes to score points. 


Then it was time for the boys to show off the construction skills as in a group of three they made a glider ready for Rally day in May, where they shall be tested to see whose will fly the furthurest! 

Finally it was time for the talent , Silsoe entry consisted of the Hakka and Tommy H on the guitar with a few girls singing wonderwall!!

Wednesday 18th March - Pre Rally Prep


This weeks meeting was preparing for the forthcoming pre rally competition which this year will be held on Sunday 29th March. 

There are a range of competition throughout the day including origami, a variety performance and rugby, badminton and golf skills. 

On Wednesday, members practise their origami and also had a go at clay modelling either a monster, animal or person (depending on their age group).

Wednesday 11th March

Last nights meeting was at Watergate Farm for a bit of poultry plucking and trussing , rabbit skinning and gutting and stock handling. 

John Franklin spent the evening showing a selection of Bedfordshire Young Farmers how to pluck a chicken and then members got to have a try for themselves.



Then Blanche Walker showed us how to truss and joint up a chicken and members got to have go for themselves.



Whilst this was going on in one shed, in the other shed members were being taught how to show sheep and beef cattle. 

Finally there was a chance to learn how to skin and gut a rabbit. 


Wednesday 4 March 2015

Wednesday 4th March - lambing

Last night members were luckier enough to visit Manor Farm at Wilstead to see the lambs. 



Whilst there members saw a live birthing of not 1, not 2, not 3 but 4 lambs, quadruplets! 


Afterwards members were able to hold some of the pet lambs. 



At the end of the evening everyone was invited into the house for tea and cake.

Next weeks meeting is rabbit gutting and poultry plucking practise at watergate farm!
